ConvaTec - Connecting to caring: The power of digital consultation- Learning from Western Australia.

Western Australia is Australia’s largest state with a total land area of over 975,685 square miles and a population of just over two and a half million people. Due to its vast size and distance between each town and city, the state has long adapted telemedicine to connect stoma patients to expert healthcare. Now, through the Coronavirus pandemic, telemedicine is being adopted at speed, all over the world. 

In this webinar, presented by Wendy Pearson, Clinical Nurse Consultant for the Stomal Therapy Service at Royal Perth Hospital, will be examining the power of telemedicine in a world of socially distanced healthcare. Asking the question: What can we learn from the Australian experience and how have they adapted to COVID?

Wendy Pearson has been the Clinical Nurse Consultant for the Stomal Therapy Service at Royal Perth Hospital for almost 7 years. Previously, she enjoyed working in neonatal intensive care, paediatric community nursing, adult outpatient clinics and general surgery. 

Wendy’s passion for both teaching and learning has seen her complete post-graduate qualifications in Stomal Therapy, Continence, and more recently, her Master’s in Clinical Nursing. She is currently a PhD candidate at Curtin University where she conducts research alongside similar programmes at Royal Perth Hospital and The University of Western Australia.

Wendy was a previous member of the Australian Department of Health Stoma Product Appliance Panel and a past President of the Western Australian Branch of the Australian Association of Stomal Therapy Nurses.
